A Celebration of a Life
Friends of Michael Deaver — old and new … celebrities, world leaders and ordinary folks — gathered today at Washington National Cathedral to honor a man who not only touched their lives but made a difference in the lives of countless others.
Nancy Reagan, widow of the former President, was there. Vice President and Mrs. Dick Cheney. Henry Pierce spoke of Mike’s unwavering support to help him escape the addiction of drugs and alcohol. Now, 15 years later, Pierce is executive director of Washington’s Clean and Sober Streets rehab program. Johnny Mathis sang “Amazing Grace” as his tribute … man, the guy still has a terrific voice at age 72. James Baker, Reagan’s Secretary of State … he came, too. The Cathedral will filled to capacity.
There were a few humorous stories told about this amazing man of great integrity and humble spirit who had such a profound impact on shaping the Reagan presidency, and there were tears, too. It just would not have been a fitting tribute to Deaver without humor and some tears.
