Where is the French “Expert?”

Alexis Debat — now described by Wired as “The French Defense ‘Expert’ Who Snookered Washington” — apparently is maintaining a low profile. I would not be at all surprised to hear that he’s got a movie/book deal. This thing reminds me of “Catch Me If You Can” with Tom Hanks.

Really, when you think about the plot, no one can make up something more bizarre, with greater subterfuge. Debat ought to stop worrying about whatever is left of his reputation and find a good Hollywood agent. If all that has been alleged is half true, it would appear that he has cleverly made fools of ABC News, George Washington University’s Homeland Security program, the Nixon Center and the Pentagon.

Meantime, Laura Rozen, who has done such good reporting on this evolving scandal for War and Piece, writes that Debat claims to be working for the Pentagon. I suppose it’s only a matter of time until we hear he has been personally advising Dick Cheney.
