Conference Cancels Due to Soft Economy

| August 18, 2008 | 2 Comments

The Digital Life Expo in New York, billed as “the ultimate consumer technology and entertainment event,” has been abruptly cancelled. It was to have been held at the giant Javits Convention Center on September 25-28. Digital Life is owned by Ziff Davis.

Reason for the cancellation:  ”Soft economy.”

I’ve never before heard of such a event canceling for such a reason and hope to find the real backstory.  Digital Life’s PR people are not saying one way or the other.

  1. David,

Love your blog. Ziff cancelled because it is in the process of recovering from a deep bankruptcy. I keep getting letters about every ten days as a former Ziff writer from attorneys updating Ziff folks on the current situation of Ziff.

I hope they return in full force someday as it was so great to write for them and they were just such a fantastic company.

Thanks for giving me the link love too.

  2. Nettie,

“Soft economy” was the official excuse but canceling such an event on short notice has inconvenienced many people, and I suspect it will hurt the show’s reputation, if it is ever scheduled again.

Aside from the problems at Ziff, I suspect that competition from the giant CES was simply too much.

    Great to hear from you!

    David
