Home Healthcare: Defining Excellence

| October 20, 2008 | 0 Comments

I don’t know about other parts of the country but I think I am lucky living in Arlington, Virginia – Every since having total right knee replacement (relax, I won’t show the photos), I have been receiving at-home professional physical therapy three times a week, and a visiting nurse a couple of times each week for blood work and check-ups.

Here in northern Virginia, the system is called INOVA VNA Home Healthcare, part of the superb INOVA Health System. But apart from the structure of an organization, it is the healthcare professionals who make it work on a personal basis to benefit patients, and who create a great reputation through their personal dedication. That’s where the INOVA Home Healthcare team defines excellence that is so important in today’s world.

  • They talk with each other – They share information about patients as a team so that everyone is on the same page and knows the progress of each patient.
  • They are authentic, caring and dedicated professionals – They are veterans of physical therapy and nursing. They have seen it all, and, as a result, really know how to help patients during recovery.
  • They demonstrate real enthusiasm for a patient’s progress – They treat patients as people, not numbers. That goes a long way toward healing.
  • They are nice people.

So, I write these few words as my way of simply saying, Thank You. Thank you, Fieke Janson. Thank you, Anna Marie Maggio and Kathy Farmer. I am fortunate to know you.
