Prague on a Winter’s Night
This is my first visit to Prague. I had heard the city is famous for its medieval buildings, dramatic bridges, good food and friendly people. On my first day here … walking through the old city with my wife, Kit … we found all that to be true. Prague is a lovely city. And, there is something else …
Prague is a city where people – couples, families, individuals, tourists – walk, and what seems to be most fun is walking through the city at night, with its dramatic shadows and light.
Throngs of people … walking, taking photos, laughing, having a cup of hot chocolate or warm wine. The city has a way of seeming like some giant movie set or a place where history is frozen in time … some time long ago.
We want to share some of the images we saw on a winter’s night in Prague. Incidentally, even though the temperature here is in the 30s, the wind chill is lower because of the wind. I’ve found buildings in Prague to be warm inside, due in part to thick walls … in some cases, up to two feet thick, like those of our hotel, built in the 14th century. And, that brings up one of the best parts about Prague … it is a wonderful, ancient city that fortunately was not destroyed by Nazi or Communist occupation.
