Today, we live in a time when fear, distrust and anger are rampant. We are afraid to call terrorism terrorism, and yet we are also afraid of every day activities, like taking photographs of public buildings that represent our nations history, or buildings that have unique architectural lines or simply are just plain interesting. We are concerned when ordinary folks or the press take photos, which might be perceived as scouting potential targets, but at the same time refuse to call terrorists that actually commit terror acts terrorists. We do live in interesting times, and as the old Buffalo Springfield song said, "Paranoia strikes deep. Into your life it will creep. It starts when you're always afraid..."
Thanks for raising an issue that should concern us all.

I read Will’s piece and you are correct, it was excellent. I have had the privilege of knowing Jay Hunter MOrris since his 9th grade year when I had the opportunity of being his H.S. Choir teacher at Paris High School. Jay was in my choir all 4 years a/ Paris High School, had the leading role in our Musical, THE PAJAMA GAME, was All Area in our University Interscholastic League Contest and should have been a member of the Texas All State Choir but had been fighting illness when he auditioned. He was one of my most outstanding pupils as well as becoming one of my very best friends in the whole wide world!! I count myself blessed to having had just a small part in his early musical growth. He was then and is now an absolute joy!! He is truly "for real!!

This is a marvelous article about a marvelous young man. The concern might be justified, but how they are going about it is so "Keystone cops", in my opinion of course! Perhaps, more subtlety and professionalism would accomplish more than such blatant fear tactics.

I wonder if Amtrak is over reacting to the apparent attempt to derail a freight train carrying highly flammable material in Iowa in 2011, and concern by sone at Homeland Security of possibly more to come? Very good question and an inadvertent omission on my part. I am adding a couple of examples at the end of my piece.
Thanks,

Thanks for the great post. Can you guide us to some of the news sites you mention? It sounds interesting and I'd like to explore it further.

It could have and still should keep in touch with its customers letting them in general terms that it is doing all it can to make sure it does not happen again, and to let their subscribers know that in fact they are cooperating with law enforcement to help bring those responsible to justice. Doing that will not hamper any investigations. I do think Stratfor serves a niche and is needed for the very reasons mentioned above, most execs doing international business do not have the time to google all news that may be germane to their line of work, and ponce gathered analyze it. Stratfor does just that. Nothing on the internet is truly secure and we know business after business has been hacked as wel as governments, including their dense agencies. That Stratfor was hacked is unfortunate as it is an intel based company, but it has learned a a lesson and will make sure more secure means are employed. It would be hoped that after this event and it aftermath, the company will also understand the need to be, open and out front with the public in general, and especially its subscribers in particular. Crisis communications is real and Stratfor needs to learn, understand it, and engage in it.

Just because law enforcement agencies are investigating the mater does not mean Stratfor had to remain silent.
