It’s a stand by a well-known journalist that takes courage, I believe. Former CBS NEWS investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson is speaking out, in detail, about how mainstream media is “brainwashing” … her word … many people in America.
It’s become an unfortunate reality in the U.S. — the media, once owned by many diverse and civic-minded local, regional and national companies, has been gobbled up by a small handful of mega-corporations – six to be precise. They control more than 90 percent of the media across the country, including television, radio and print.
Accuracy and quality of news is taking a backseat to profits, power and money.
Not all the time but sometimes … many times … what is passed-off as “news” might appear because of some underlying commercial, political, business or less-than-transparent agenda. In the process, facts are debunked by untruths, intentionally created confusion and distortion about what’s right or wrong. It contributes, I believe, to the divisiveness we are seeing in America.
In a 10-minute TEDx talk at the University of Nevada, Attkisson takes square aim at the issue of media manipulation … the hidden agendas, and she includes examples. A big culprit and not to be trusted she says (and I agree) is Wikipedia.org.
